The comment about habits rings true with me. People get used to communicating in a particular medium, so they use it for everything. Parallels the Idea that if your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail. I experience that habit as a reflection of my resistance to climbing too many learning curves. I assess new tools based on their potential utility and the time/effort cost of learning how to use them. Ergo I've stuck with my Palm Pilot despite my admiration and loyalty to Apple and the elegance of the iPhone. On the other hand, I'm studying social network marketing because I see the utility as a marketer. Not sure I see it from a personal standpoint. Yet.

Well of course, but today instead of a long, lovely poem called the Canterbury Tales, Chaucer would type a 20 page back and forth called the Canterbury Phrases (I'd say Canterbury Tweets, but that doesn't quite catch the concept). Good or bad? Like everything else, it's all in what you do with the technology. "Nothing is good or evil but using makes it so."
